The present Church of Drumoak was built in the gothic structure in 1836, during the Ministry of Rev Dr Adam Corbet. The architect was Alexander Simpson of Aberdeen. The Kirk Sessions Records date back to 1682.
One of the most famous names associated with the parish is that of James Gregory. Born in 1638, the third son of the minister of the parish, he graduated at Marischal College, Aberdeen, in 1657. James Gregory's genius in mathematics and science gave him a place second only to Sir Isaac Newton. In 1668 he was admitted a Fellow of the Royal Society, and two years later was elected professor of mathematics in St. Andrews. He died in 1675 aged 37.
