Drumoak-Durris 2010 Golf Outing

The 2010 Drumoak-Durris Annual Golf outing took place at Ballater Golf Club on Saturday 10th April. After a long, hard winter it was a joy to be able to play on Ballater's excellent course in shirt sleeves and to feel a warm breeze on one's face rather than the lash of icy rain and snow. It was especially remarkable given that only a few days before Balleter's fairways and greens had been under snow.
14 players (Sally and Peter, Jill and Neil, Morag and Donald, Norma and Ian, Howard, Jill M, Alastair, Andy, Ronnie, Liz) competed for the sought-after trophies and 16 (players and Helen and Lynne) sat down to a welcome high tea – excellent battered fish and chips or lasagne or salad followed by a dessert. The format was Greensomes with teams of two being drawn out of a hat – efforts being made to make for fair and enjoyable pairings. That seemed to mean no spouses playing together!
The winning pair were Alastair Marshall and Liz Anderson. This is especially remarkable as Liz plays once a year and trains by carrying heifers two at a time under her arms. It's true that she had an advantage – she was assisted by her caddy, Lynne Anderson who clearly knew her way around a golf course and was heard to refer to the tee box as the “shaved area”. Alastair recovered from his drive at the first where he put his ball up someone's exhaust pipe in the car park. The Longest Drive was won by Liz – it's the training what does it. Nearest the Pin was won by Ronnie Mitchell. Ronnie had a double handicap as his partner was Peter, whose new SkyCaddie GPS device was very helpful in letting him find his way out of places on the course which had never before been visited by humans.
Helen came along for the high tea and she too had a most enjoyable day.
The resounding verdict of the day was, “let's do it again!” If you weren't there – why not?
