Manse lunch and tea party

On June 20th the Rev Jim and Mrs Roz Scott threw open the manse to a garden party. We were blessed with the weather which, if hazy, was warm and indeed those who lack hair on the top of their heads turned a definite shade of pink. At 4 o'clock, which seemed about the right time for the proceedings to come to a close, a light drizzle started; clearly someone has friends in high places.

There was lunch and there was afternoon tea. There were games for children, in which many adults joined in most enthusiastically; we're glad to report that none joined in too enthusiastically and there were no cases of adults being wheeled off on stretchers due to collisions with younger, stronger and fitter participants. (It did happen one year that a collision between an adult and a youngster resulted in a dislocated thumb but we hope that all has been forgiven now.) The manse is an ideal venue for such a gathering with trees and bushes for the very young to play hide-and-seek in, or to find treasure; and a big garden for obstacle relay races and football.
There was ample space too for tables to be loaded to the gunnels for the dish after dish of first class meat, salads and then dessert - and what desserts they were. If you'd seen the display of food, you'd have thought that it would have fed an army and there'd be masses left over - but such was not the case. 170 people turned up to the event; 170. That's a big number for small rural parishes and it's testimony to the warm feeling we all have for our minister and his wife and our church community.
When giving the vote of thanks, the Session Clerk paid tribute to Jim and Roz. Roz for her part acknowledged the help she'd had from many people to put the event together and to make it go so smoothly; so smoothly indeed that we expressed the wish "to do it again next week!".
