The theme of our service on Sunday was Harvest Festival. Drumoak-Durris is a rural parish, particularly Durris, so farming is in everybody’s minds. The service was wonderful with several contributions from the Sunday Club children. They acted a passage from Luke ch 8, vs 4 to 8, which is about sowing seeds; some will grow and some will fall on stony ground. The children also had to find pieces of fruit and vegetables hidden around the church – it was a relaxed and very warm and moving service.
We chose Farm Africa as our charity this year – but why? Well, Farm Africa is dedicated to helping people living in rural areas in East Africa to grow the food they need and to improve their well-being. It tries to provide aid which will really help. It doesn’t appear to try to do too much and reach beyond its capabilities, or the capabilities of the people it’s trying to help. It works mainly in East Africa – Sudan, Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania – and gets right down to the grass roots to help people in villages.
