With the cooler weather coming and the nights drawing in, we’ll start to use more energy in our homes, and of course oiur churches. We’ve been monitoring the amount of energy we use in the church buildings and have made a few changes to help reduce our consumption. Most of our energy is used at Drumoak and by being careful about when lights and heating are on, and by stopping draughts, and by putting in secondary glazing in selected places we’ve managed to reduce our consumption by about 30% compared to the same period in 2009. We owe a debt of thanks to Andy coutts, Drumoak Property Convenor, for making this happen.
Thank you to everyone who has contributed to recycling. We’ve recycled more than 9kg of aluminium foil over the past year. 9kg doesn’t sound like much but it’s the equivalent to a roll of foil 360 metres long. Recycling foil uses on 5% of the energy it takes to create aluminium foil from raw materials, and the foil can recycled many times. So keep bringing your foil along to Drumoak Church!
