On Sunday 2nd October, a group from Drumoak-Durris Church and the community took a 6-mile walk around Three Churches in Drumoak Parish. The events was part of the 175th Anniversary commemmoration of Drumoak Church. Starting from the Drumoak Church, we walked down to the old Free Church which is now somewhat neglected. It was taken over by the council but is more or less unused nowadays and it shows. Surely a use could be found for it?
From there we walked down to the church at Dalmaik by the River Dee. A church has been there in some or other form since the 11th Century. Robin Jackson gave us a most informative talk within the ruins of the church and while, of course, there are a lot "probably this" and presumably that" related to the history of the site it was nevertheless exciting to know that for 1,000 years and more Christians have worshipped in that spot. It serves us to well to consider the dedication of worshippers in the 19th Century who walked perhaps as much as much 5 or 6 miles each way to attend a service every Sunday. "No rest for the believers" to coin a phrase.
The walk gave us all a chance to enjoy a short time of fellowship which as important to a Christian as is the weekly service; perhaps more important.
